April is National Welding Month—and for us, it's personal. At TransTech Group, nearly everything we engineer and fabricate begins and ends with a weld. Pressure vessels that hold hundreds of PSI. Heat exchangers running cryogenic fluids. Storage tanks. Rail terminal infrastructure. LNG handling systems. If it's built at TransTech, a skilled welder's hands and eyes made it possible.
This month, we want to do two things: geek out a little on why weld integrity matters so much in what we do—and say a proper, out-loud thank-you to the welders across our family of companies who show up every day and do the hard, skilled, consequential work of making things that last.
Across TransTech Fabrication, Bendel, Metalforms, CTR, Maddox Industrial, and TransTech Energy, welding is the common thread—literally. Every arc struck, every bead laid, every pass inspected represents a commitment to quality that runs through everything the TransTech Group stands for.
Why Weld Quality Isn't Optional:
Let's be direct: in the industries we serve, a bad weld isn't just a quality problem—it's a safety problem. Energy infrastructure, industrial processing equipment, cryogenic systems, and pressure vessels operate under conditions that punish weakness without mercy. High pressure. Extreme temperatures. Corrosive environments. Constant mechanical stress.
Weld integrity keeps those systems running safely—and keeps people safe around them. Internal flaws such as porosity, slag inclusion, or lack of fusion create hidden weak points that don't always reveal themselves until it's too late. That's why the weld leaving a TransTech shop isn't just expected to hold—it's inspected, documented, and certified to prove it will.
Structural Safety
Welded joints bear the stress loads in pressure vessels, tanks, and process equipment. Integrity here isn't negotiable.
Failure Prevention
Porosity, slag inclusion, and lack of fusion are invisible threats. Skilled welding and inspection eliminate them before they grow
Equipment Longevity
A properly executed weld holds up for decades against pressure cycling, temperature swings, and chemical exposure
Code Compliance
ASME, AWS, API—our certifications mean every weld meets the standard the industry demands. No shortcuts.
The Science of Knowing It's Right
A weld you can't see inside is a weld you can't fully trust—which is exactly why non-destructive testing (NDT) is a non-negotiable part of our quality process. Radiographic testing, ultrasonic inspection, dye penetrant, and magnetic particle methods allow our teams to inspect a completed weld without touching it. If there's a flaw, we find it before the equipment ever leaves the shop floor.
This isn't just about catching mistakes. It's about confidence—ours and our customers'. When a TransTech pressure vessel ships, the paperwork that goes with it tells a complete story: the procedure, the welder, the inspection, the result. That traceability is part of what we sell, and it starts with the skill and discipline of the people behind the mask.
"Welding isn’t a step in the process—it is the process. When the weld is right, everything downstream works. When it’s not, nothing else matters. Our welders understand that better than anyone, and it shows in everything that leaves our shops.”
— TransTech Group Leadership
Welding Is In Our DNA
Look across the TransTech Group family and you'll find welding at the center of it all:
TransTech Fabrication
ASME-certified pressure vessels, tanks, and process equipment—where complex weld procedures meet the tightest tolerances in the industry.
Bendel
Specialty fabrication demanding precision fit-up and flawless weld execution on complex geometry and high-alloy materials.
Metalforms & Metalforms HX
Heat exchangers built weld by weld to TEMA standards, where thermal performance lives and dies on the integrity of every joint.
CTR Cryogenics
Cryogenic systems push metals—and welders—to their limits. The weld quality here has to be extraordinary because the operating conditions are.
Maddox Industrial
Corrosion mapping, stress point review, support systems, leak detection, pressure testing
TransTech Energy
LPG and NGL infrastructure where welded piping, tanks, and rail systems operate under pressure—literally—every single day.
To Every Welder Across the TransTech Family
You are not a background character in what we build. You are the reason it holds.
The vessels that contain dangerous pressure, the cryogenic systems that run at -300°F, the rail infrastructure that moves millions of gallons of product—none of it works without you.
Your skill is measured in thousandths of an inch. Your judgment calls happen in seconds, under a hood, in conditions that aren’t always comfortable. You’re certified, re-tested, and held to standards that most people don’t even know exist. And you meet them. Every shift.
This month—and every month—we see you. Thank you.
What Sets A TransTech Weld Apart
It starts with procedure. Every weld at TransTech follows a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)—a documented, tested recipe for how that particular material, in that particular configuration, must be welded to meet code. Our welders are qualified to those procedures and re-qualified on schedule. It’s not paperwork for its own sake—it’s the system that guarantees consistency.
From there, it’s execution. Fit-up, preheat, interpass temperature control, travel speed, technique—every variable that affects a weld’s final quality is managed deliberately. And then it’s inspection: visual, dimensional, and non-destructive, depending on the code requirement. The weld doesn’t get a pass because it looks good. It gets a pass because it passed.
Whether it's a first pass or a final cap bead, a groove weld or a fillet, a carbon steel tank or a high-alloy cryogenic vessel—the standard at TransTech is the same: do it right, prove it's right, and stand behind it.
Happy National Welding Month!
From every corner of the TransTech Group family—thank you to the welders, inspectors, and fabricators who make it all possible Here's to the bead behind everything we build.
